Hello, Since this was my first mission trip, I didn’t know how Brandon decided who would help with VBS and who would work on the construction crew. I really wanted to help Andy Matson on the construction crew, because I had heard from my older friends and cousins that it was fun. So when Brandon told us that 7th graders had to work in VBS, I was kind of nervous about it. I wasn’t that worried because I like working with kids, but I was really disappointed that I couldn’t work with Andy. When I got to the “Boys and Girls Club” even though we were working with 5, 6, and 7 year olds, I was amazed to see all the different ages of kids. When I first met my group, they were hyper. Then I started talking to some of the kids and got to know them and what their life is like. This one little girl was so enthusiastic about us being there. I also could have sworn I met my “mini-me”. He was SO cool. During the whole week I connected with my group. We did crafts, listened to bible stories, sang songs, and played games in recreation. At the end of the week it was so hard to leave those kids. They were all yelling “don’t leave us . . . come back”. Even I was crying! So were the older kids, and even some of the guys. We really connected with them on their own little level. One little boy came up to me as we were walking out on the last day and said, “Never forget about me”. He was the one that got very attached to Chad (aka Robin) when Lifting Praises went to perform for the whole Club. Ask Chad to tell you the story. It’s really funny! So tell me if this sums up how much we cared for these kids . . . we got in trouble for loving on the kids too much. They might have a new group come in the next week, but they said that we were different from all the rest. I really believe that that God worked in some of their hearts, and I know he worked in mine. I may be able to be on the construction crew next year, but if you ask me I think I’ll stick with VBS. Garrett
